Technical Writer - LAC Group

Location: USA - DC - Washington DC

LAC Group is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support a strategic communications project. The Technical Writer will work with policy analysts, graphic designers, and subject matter experts to draft, edit, and revise a broad range of material ranging from blog posts to operating procedures. The Technical Writer will create and maintain documentation templates for numerous products and ensure that these comply with all federal and agency guidelines. Working with subject matter experts, the Technical Writer will draft materials for both technical and non-technical audiences that communicate complex material pertaining to information security policies and practices. The Technical Writer will also review and edit materials drafted by others. This is a full-time, benefited position based in Washington DC.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain templates for documentation for a broad range of material
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts and graphic designers to develop, draft, revise, and polish materials including marketing collateral, operating procedures, and articles

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in technology, English/Journalism, or relevant field
  • 10 years of experience as a Technical Writer in the IT Security field including effectively describing technically complex material to technical and non-technical audiences, both visually and with written word.
  • 5 years of experience using Microsoft Office products, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • 5 years of experience editing technical writing products
  • 2 years of experience using the relevant NIST Special Publications
    • NIST SP 800-53A, Current Version, Guide for Assessing the Security Controls in Federal Information Systems
    • NIST SP 800-53, Current Version, Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations
    • NIST SP 800-30, Guide for Conducting Risk Assessments
    • NIST SP 800-37, Current Version, Guide for Applying the Risk Management Framework to Federal Information Systems: A Security Lifecycle Approach
