Software Curation Specialist - NYU

Location: USA - NY - New York

  • Working with the Librarian for Research Data Management and Reproducibility, the main activities for Software Curation Specialist include:
  • Contribute to the development of a software preservation software suite via:
  • Roadmap development as a key partner and domain specialist on software preservation,
  • Writing a selection policy for software collecting to guide development,
  • Testing the software against defined criteria,
  • Developing publicly available user workflows, and
  • Extending or modifying metadata schemas for research software.
  • Explore and help establish a service model that applies digital curation principles and practice to software, such as:
  • Actively curating software built by the NYU community,
  • Conducting outreach and instruction sessions, and
  • Contributing to Libraries-wide efforts to improve infrastructure for research needs (including software publishing).
  • Prepare articles, reports, data, code, and presentations (with co-authorship), and present/publish them at professional venues.


Qualifications
Required

  • Master of Library and Information Science or similar degree (e.g. MSIS, M.A. archival science), or related experience
  • Experience with the standards, tools, and practices of digital preservation
  • Ability to communicate clearly and optimally, both orally and in writing
  • Strong project management skills

Preferred

  • Familiarity with software development and associated technologies
  • Familiarity with computational research processes and tools (from any field)
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks as part of a larger group
  • Proven creative problem solving skills
  • Capacity in prioritizing and managing multiple requirements simultaneously
  • Salary/Benefits: Attractive benefits package including generous time off. Salary starting at $70,000 annually. This is a two-year full-time grant-funded appointment.
