Library Technician - LAC Group

Location: USA - MD - Bethesda

LAC Group is seeking Library Technicians to provide Document Delivery, Interlibrary Loan, and Administrative support for a major federal agency in the Bethesda, MD, area. The Technician will support a variety of activities and tasks to connect users with information resources; maintain the security and safety of the collections, and provide overall administration support in routing mail and requests for a variety of services. Responsibilities cover a wide range of technical service tasks and individual assignments may vary slightly. This is a full-time, benefited opportunity.

Responsibilities:
  • Fulfills document deliveries request (print and electronic) to internal and external customers
  • Prepare interlibrary or internal document deliveries for courier or mail delivery
  • Uses DOCLINE, the Alma Integrated Library System (ILS), and OCLC to maintain accurate records for interlibrary loan (ILL), circulation, and library holdings
  • Responds to requests to circulate, renew, and place holds on library materials
  • Picks up and distributes mail for library staff; collections material for outgoing mail
  • Hands standard and rush requests; may provide courier services for rush items
  • Maintain accurate statistics of all work performed.
  • Supports the front desk with basic clerical duties including reservations for collaboration spaces and equipment; maintaining a calendar of events; coordinating logistics
  • Provides general office administration duties including filing records, maintaining minutes of meetings, copying material, etc.

Qualifications:
  • High School/GED required
  • Associate's Degree from a recognized college or technical institute with 16 credits in library science or computer science is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel
  • Minimum of 1-year relevant library experience working with document delivery, ILL, circulation, and general office duties
  • Knowledge of library techniques, systems, and procedures
  • Some knowledge of sources of reference on bibliographical material
  • Ability to use and explain the library facilities, including catalogs and other reference aids
  • Ability to deal effectively with volunteers and non-professional staff in instructing them in the use of the library
  • Ability to present ideas effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel of the institution.
