Library Director - Temple Public Library

Location: USA - TX - Austin

The Temple Public Library invites applications for the position of Library Director! Reporting to the Assistant City Manager, the Library Director leads and directs all library services and ensures that those services meet the needs of the community. The City of Temple seeks an energetic and outgoing library professional who will have a thoughtful approach to role transition and who is excited to quickly learn and understand current processes.

The position requires a master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) and a minimum of five years of experience in library operations with three years of managerial experience in a public library. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Certified Public Library Administrator Certification (CPLA) through an accredited agency is preferred.

Temple, Texas, is ideally situated along the Central Texas technology corridor with San Antonio and Austin to the south, and Dallas and Fort Worth to the north. It is a principal city in the Killeen-Temple- Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has an estimated population of 428,000. The city offers an exceptional quality of life to its approximately 79,286 residents.

The mission of the Temple Public Library is to strengthen and enrich the community by providing assistance and instruction in locating and evaluating information needed for self-directed personal growth, satisfying leisure experiences, and cultural understanding. With a staff of 27 full- and part-time employees and an annual budget of $1.9 million, the Temple Public Library offers a broad range of services, including youth and adult programs, reference and research resources, books and materials in multiple formats and mediums, local history and archives, tax forms, public computers, meeting and event space, book clubs, a bookmobile, and curbside pick-up to accommodate patrons during the pandemic.
