Legal Recruiting & Professional Development Manager - LAC Group

Location: USA - CA - Palo Alto

LAC Group seeks a dynamic, experienced Legal Recruiting and Professional Development Manager for a position at a prestigious, AMLAW 100 firm in Palo Alto, California!  The successful candidate will handle all aspects of attorney recruiting and hiring, retention, training and professional development for the firm’s West Coast and Denver offices.


  • Coordinates with Directors to hire, develop and compensate legal personnel in the West Coast and Denver offices
  • Works collaboratively to manage local team support in the implementation of attorney hiring, evaluation, retention, promotion and compensation programs
  • Manages orientation, on-boarding, integration, termination and outplacement programs and collaborates with office leadership regarding attorney headcount
  • Handles complex employee relations matters and provides counsel regarding career questions, leaves of absence and personnel issues
  • Collaborates with Directors to design, manage and evaluate all aspects of the Summer Associate Program
  • including orientation, diversity initiatives, social events, mentoring,  and educational programs
  • Generates interest and solicits summer associate work assignments from the firm’s practice areas and probono programs
  • Oversees campus recruiting and in-office recruiting efforts; Manages the judicial law clerk and law school student recruitment process, including support for the firm’s branding initiatives and targeted law school communications
  • Collaborates with legal recruitment managers to manage all aspects of non-partner and partner lateral attorney recruitment process
  • Ensures the successful development of relationships with external clients including lateral technology specialist candidates and recruitment firms on the West Coast and in Denver
  • Works with Professional Development and Training Managers to manage the training and development team firm-wide and implements training programs to maximize quality and effectiveness
  • Keeps abreast of professional development trends for attorneys to increase firm awareness of internal and external development opportunities
  • Actively participates with Firm Wide Hiring Oversight Committee to help align recruitment efforts, best practices and strategies across all offices
  • Coordinates with Directors to ensure local implementation of the firm’s strategic goals, objectives and initiatives and assesses and measures the effectiveness of these implementations in the West Coast and Denver offices
  • In collaboration with functional leaders, ensures a smart and flexible expense and headcount budget for the West Coast and Denver offices aligned with the firm's strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives. Manages monthly monitoring of accounts, anticipates and resolves discrepancies

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of legal personnel or recruitment experience along with prior management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and analytical abilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment is essential
  • Must be highly motivated and must demonstrate a high degree of initiative
  • Excellent time management skills to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
