Digital Services Specialist - ArtCenter College of Design

Location: USA - CA - Pasadena

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Collections and Systems; the Digital Services Specialist is responsible for various digital projects including technical support for online resources; troubleshooting issues with digital content; assisting with integration, migration, and implementation of library software; fulfilling article scanning requests; digitizing and cataloging requests for the institutional digital image repository; tracking workflows, projects and documentation; training, scheduling, and supervising student workers and interns; and assisting with gathering, analyzing, and reporting statistics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2-3 years of experience providing user support and customer service in a technical environment
  • Strong problem-solving and logic skills and an aptitude for troubleshooting issues
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, social media, web technology, and a disposition for learning new technologies
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to balance priorities, takes initiative, reliable, and resourceful
  • Customer service-focused individual with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to work effectively with students, faculty and staff
  • Collaboration skills with demonstrated success working on teams
  • A commitment to DEIAB and culture, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, art, design, media, or related studies from an accredited college or university
  • Experience with operating systems, asset management, project management, video and image editing, web forms, content management systems, HTML & CSS
  • Understanding of authentication and proxy-rewrite methods for online resources
  • Experience operating scanning equipment and editing digital images and text
  • Knowledge of art and design history as well as metadata best practices with prior experience cataloging images, preferably using VRA Core 4.0, CCO, Getty Vocabularies, and Library of Congress Authorities
  • Familiarity with copyright laws and rights management issues in a digital environment

Essential Functions

Software and Online Access — 30%

  • Verify access and functionality of the discovery layer, WebPAC, mobile application, website, and online resources
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot technical issues with hardware, software, and patron access to online content and services
  • Open and manage helpdesk tickets with vendors
  • Assist with maintaining the WebPAC and website
  • Create and update web forms
  • Assist with installation, integration, migration and implementation of library software

Electronic Resources — 25%

  • Provide technical support for the Library’s online resources as part of an interdepartmental workflow
  • Assist with set up, testing, and maintenance of proxy configurations for trials, databases, and e-journals
  • Assist with maintaining Online Resources A-Z list
  • Provide IP ranges to vendors

User Support, Services, and Outreach — 20%

  • Provide patron support for inquiries and access issues for library digital resources
  • Provide outreach for digitization services
  • Provide technical assistance for library staff
  • Maintain tutorials and troubleshooting guides for users
  • Contribute content for library website, mobile application, maps, information graphics, video tutorials, social media, and other promotional channels following media and branding guidelines

Digitization — 10%

  • Scan articles for e-reserves
  • Digitize and catalog images using best practices, cataloging standards, and authority records
  • Maintain color management and calibration of equipment according to best-practice protocols
  • Train, schedule, and supervise student workers and interns assisting with cataloging, scanning, and image editing
  • Perform quality control checks of digital images and metadata
  • Upload images to the digital image repository
  • Back up working files

Project Tracking and Data Analysis — 10%

  • Manage tracking of workflows, projects, batches, equipment, and issue resolution
  • Document setup specifications, tasks, and solutions in the Library’s project management software, wiki, and document-sharing sites
  • Assist with gathering statistics for analysis, reporting, surveys, and evidence-based decision making

Non-Essential Duties — 5%

  • Maintain current knowledge of technology and metadata emerging trends and best practices in academic libraries via professional communications and continuing education
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet departmental, library, and institutional priorities, goals, and objectives
  • Other duties as assigned
