Children's Librarian (Part-Time) - LAC Group

Location: USA - CA - Monterey Park

LAC Group is searching for a Part-Time Children’s Librarian for a public library in the San Gabriel Valley/East LA area. The Part-Time Children’s Librarian will be responsible for conducting story time for large groups and community outreach. This is a part-time position (about 6-10 hours per week) which requires availability on Wednesday afternoons, Thursday mornings and on weekends (when necessary).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide professional library services to the public, answers reference questions and assist with the library's materials collection development.
• Perform a variety of other professional library tasks such as instructing the public in the use of the computer catalog, Internet terminals, e-books and online databases, act as the reader's advisor and instruct patrons on the use of reference sources.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program is required. Public library experience is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of local library policies, professional library procedures, systems and techniques, general and specialized reference sources (both print and electronic), cataloging rules and norms, research methods, deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner and help uphold the library's rules of conduct and Internet usage guidelines, exercise good judgment and apply library policies and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors and staff. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.
