Temporary Access Services Supervisor - Le Moyne College
Location: USA - NY - Syracuse
Le Moyne College is seeking a Temporary Access Services Supervisor in Syracuse, NY. This position assures high-quality customer service in support of scholarly content and research information to all members of the college community through the hiring, training, and evaluation of the department's student assistants, in addition to other essential functions. This position works Monday - Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Personnel:
- Primary responsibility for hiring, evaluating, and disciplining 30 student assistants (7 FTE clerical staff).
- Conducts ongoing training to ensure knowledgeable and competent student assistants.
- Prepares and monitors student schedules for academic periods including breaks, holidays, and extended hours in alignment with the student payroll budget.
- In concert with the department supervisors, oversees student assignments and scheduling changes.
- Prepares student time-sheets and authorizes payment.
- Formally documents and reviews the performance of student assistant workers.
Circulation:
- Oversees the charging out and returns of circulating materials.
- Prepares and sends overdue notices/bills to patrons.
- Performs public service desk responsibilities as needed.
- Authorizes exceptions to circulation policies when appropriate.
- Resolves general patron concerns along with fine disputes and makes referrals to Head of Public Services when appropriate.
- Maintains check-in record of the Post Standard newspaper.
- In concert with the department supervisors, processes search and hold requests.
Bookings/Room Reservations:
- Processes reservations for the Muserlian Instructional Laboratory.
- In concert with the department supervisors, oversees the booking of videos and other media for showing in classrooms.
Collection Maintenance:
- Identifies materials in need of repair or replacement.
- Oversees operation of the exit control system.
- Develops communications and training procedures to ensure the security of collections against theft and physical deterioration.
Reserves:
- In concert with the department supervisors, processes reserve requests and removes reserves at the end of the term.
- Coordinates periodic accuracy checks.
Patron Assistance:
- Assists student assistants in answering reference, directional, technical, and circulation related questions.
- Refers patrons to proper department or personnel.
- Recommends and informs patrons of available resources.
- Provides accurate statistics of patron transactions.
Equipment:
- Performs routine maintenance on department equipment and arranges for repairs.
- Integrated Library System (ILS):
- Monitors the system for problems.
Planning/Budgeting:
- Monitors budget expenditures and makes recommendations for purchases.
- As needed, acts as resource for projects and planning for the Access Services Department and/or the Library as a whole.
Communications:
- Creates reports and correspondence as needed.
- Corresponds with faculty, staff, students, and general public about individual specific problems, procedures, and policies.
- Administers and interprets policies and procedures to students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
- Develops, evaluates, and reviews departmental policies and procedures.
Wilson Gallery:
- Assists chair of the art gallery committee with administrative tasks for art exhibits.

- Maintains awareness of trends in access services as appropriate to responsibilities.
Requirements:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree is required.
PREREQUISITES:
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Must have previous supervisory experience
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- The ability to work well independently.
