Research Librarian - LAC Group

Location: USA - DC - Washington DC

LAC Group seeks a Research Librarian for a professional services organization in the Washington DC Area with clients in the health, education, and transportation. The successful candidate will be a librarian who will provide literature search services to internal and external clients and work with other staff to complete research requests in a timely, professional, and cost-effective manner.

This position is a temp-to-perm, full-time opportunity. Remote work is an option for the right candidate (need to still be able to be on-site/work in a hybrid role in the DC area) but requires the ability to work collaboratively, multitask, and meet deadlines during standard business hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed literature searches for literature reviews and complex research requests
  • Formulate and implement complex search strategies; adapt searches to various research databases; conduct iterative searches; and document search methodologies, both independently and in collaboration with other librarians
  • Work with requestors to clarify research objectives, as necessary, and to guide requestors on best practices for literature reviews and other research needs
  • Summarize and synthesize findings and place findings in context
  • Manage search results and maintain bibliographic management databases
  • Communicate progress directly to requestors in a clear, concise, and timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with peers as well as independently to provide expert, seamless service and to follow research assignments through to completion
  • Conduct orientation sessions and offer effective training in the use of research tools
  • Provide guidance on copyright compliance and technical services activities
  • Other special projects, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Expertise with developing, executing, and documenting sound literature search strategies in research databases, including PubMed, ProQuest, CINAHL, Ovid, etc.
  • Experience conducting iterative searches in various subject areas (e.g., behavioral and public health, social sciences, education) for both published and grey literature
  • Ability to communicate effectively with requestors to understand, guide, and meet their research needs
  • Experience managing search results and advanced knowledge of bibliographic software concepts
  • Capability to develop promotional and training materials and to conduct effective training
  • Knowledge of copyright, integrated library systems, and technical services
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Ability to think creatively, problem solve, multitask, and reprioritize as necessary to meet competing deadlines while maintaining expert service
  • Strong customer service focus and a strong service-oriented mentality
  • Capability to deliver high quality work consistently and to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently while promoting a positive image of Research Services
Education and/or Experience:
  • Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited school
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional searching experience in a research library environment
  • Excellent research skills with extensive experience conducting literature review searches
  • Substantive knowledge of the literature review process and bibliographic management
  • Strong analytic, organization, time management, problem-solving, self-motivation, and communication skills
  • Customer service orientation, flexibility, and demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team-based environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
