Northwest Clinical Campus Librarian

Location: USA - ND - Minot

The UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences is a community-based medical school in Grand Forks with regional campuses in Bismarck, Fargo and Minot. In addition to the M.D. program, professional degrees are offered in physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical laboratory science, public health, athletic training and physician assistant studies. The library also supports the programs of the College of Nursing, which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing, nutrition and dietetics, and social work. The Library serves as North Dakota’s resource library within the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and provides outreach, information and instructional services to the state’s healthcare community.

This position has the dual role of the UND SMHS Northwest Clinical Campus Librarian and the Director of the Trinity Health Library (Angus L. Cameron Medical Library) in Minot. This position is supervised by and reports to the Head of Library Resources, UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Local work direction is given by the Director of Organizational Development at Trinity Health.

UND Northwest Clinical Campus Librarian

In the role of the NW Clinical Campus Librarian, provides reference and information support services as well as training in the use of health information resources SMHS medical students, SMHS medical residents, SMHS faculty and staff, SMHS community clinical faculty, College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines students and faculty in the NW quadrant of ND.

Director, Trinity Health Library, Minot

In the role of the Director of the Trinity Health Library, manages the library and provides health information services to Trinity Health personnel. Services include providing reference and information support services as well as training in the use of health information resources to Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine students, School of Radiology and Sonography students, and other students as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide management and leadership for the services and collections provided by the Trinity Health Library.

Provide reference and information services for Trinity Health personnel and UND-affiliates.

Provide user education services for Trinity Health personnel and for UND affiliates.

Participate in professional activities; performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Competencies

Knowledge of medical education, clinical care, and research and the information resources needed to support them.

Knowledge of evidence-based health care.

Knowledge of general library procedures such as interlibrary loan, cataloging, and acquisitions.

Knowledge of database searching strategies.

Demonstrated presentation skills.

Familiarity with principles of information literacy.

Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Familiarity with current and emerging technologies used in a clinical environment.

Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Strong service orientation.

Minimum Requirements

Master's degree in Library / Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or equivalent.

Experience using mobile devices, social networking and other forms of technology to deliver information services.

Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

Medical reference experience, including database searching.

Experience teaching information literacy and subject-specific research skills.

Experience creating online learning tools such as LibGuides, tutorials, and videos.

One year of supervisory experience.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$52,000+/ year
