Job Summary

The Getty Research Institute seeks a fulltime Library Assistant III. The position handles both collection maintenance and circulation tasks. The Library Assistant III will work both under little to no supervision and within a team environment, focusing on the ongoing tasks associated with the circulation of materials in a library setting, including pulling, sorting, and reshelving books, charging and discharging materials, and editing online records. The Getty Library uses the Ex-Libris suite of hosted products: Alma, Primo, and Rosetta. A primary duty of this Library Assistant III position will be working on collection maintenance and the “end processing” of material such as marking, housing, repairing, and evaluating the condition of materials. The Library Assistant III may work on occasion at the Library's Annex location in Valencia, CA.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Primary duty will be the end processing of general collection materials;
  • May assist with special collections end processing.
  • May assist and resolve moderately complex problems for staff
  • May process interlibrary loan borrowing and lending requests
  • May assist in processing, caring for, and reformatting
  • Uses various library software applications to execute duties
  • Assists with the ongoing tasks associated with the circulation of materials including pulling, sorting, and reshelving books


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in art history or related discipline

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with various users
  • Experience with industry standard software suites
  • Experience with library circulation systems, bibliographic information
  • Physical activity for extended periods at various times throughout the day including lifting library materials weighing up to 40 pounds and pushing book cars
  • Ability to climb industrial ladders required to page and shelve
