Learning & Student Engagement Librarian - Texas A&M University

Location: USA - TX - College Station

Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a creative and dynamic professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as the Learning and Student Engagement Librarian. This is an academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities for scholarly activities and/or professional service to meet both the Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for promotion. The appointment may be as a tenure-track/tenured position or a clinical (non-tenure track) position, depending on the successful candidate’s professional interest, scholarship engagement, and professional service. The position reports to the Dean of Libraries through the Director of Learning and Outreach and Associate Dean for Public Services.


Responsibilities include:

  • Contributes teaching to a growing library instruction program coordinated through the L&O unit including course-integrated information literacy instruction
  • Works strategically with partners in the Libraries and across campus to plan instructional programming that furthers the educational mission of the Libraries and the university
  • Measures instructional outcomes, promotes integration of library instruction into the curriculum, and assesses programming in support of student success
  • Supports the planning and implementation of the unit’s outreach and student engagement activities
  • Develops and maintains sustainable partnerships with campus organizations geared toward student engagement
  • Enhances library instruction to meet the needs of the evolving educational landscape, including potential services and resources for distance education students; supports and promotes the Libraries’ and Texas A&M University’s shared vision and values
  • Engages in professional service and research (if applicable) activities at a level consistent with rank and progress toward promotion and tenure (if applicable)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master’s degree (or international equivalent)
  • Demonstrated evidence of detail-oriented and organization skills
  • Familiarity with best practices in pedagogy, particularly in library instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively, independently, and collaboratively
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative
  • Evidence of presentations to groups
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population
  • Degree in education, related field, or demonstrated professional development in information literacy
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective engagement strategies for presentations to groups of all sizes
  • Demonstrated experience in library instruction
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to library outreach, distance education, and/or instructional technology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy principles and practices

To be considered for a tenure track title of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, candidates must engage in an ongoing body of scholarship evidenced by publications in high quality, peer reviewed journals or other significant venues, and an engaged record of service at a national level. Candidates interested in coming in with tenure will be required to go through a complete review process, including letters from external reviewers and a faculty vote. To be considered for a non-tenured, Academic Professional Track title of Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, or Instructional Professor candidates must engage in professional service at multiple levels with demonstrated national impact.

The Libraries currently rank 8th in materials expenditures ($23.6 million) and 4th in ongoing expenditures ($16.6 million) among all ARL libraries. Additionally, the Libraries typically rank near the top 10 for starting librarian salaries among ARL U.S. Public Academic Libraries. Currently the staffing includes 242 individuals which includes 75 librarians holding faculty status

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $50,500. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for professional travel and development activities.
