Digital Assets Librarian - The Phillips Collection

The Phillips Collection is seeking a Digital Assets Librarian to join our team.

The Phillips Collection, opened to the public in 1921 in Washington's vibrant Dupont Circle neighborhood. Paintings by Renoir and Rothko, Bonnard and O'Keeffe, van Gogh and Diebenkorn are among the many stunning impressionist and modern works that fill the museum. Its distinctive building combines extensive new galleries with the former home of its founder, Duncan Phillips. The Collection continues to develop with new selective acquisitons, many by contemporary artists.

Position Objective:
A highly skilled and organized Digital Assets Librarian (DAL) will serve as the project leader to oversee a 3-year grant funded archives digitization project. The project will incorporate digitization technologies to process and digitize >100,000 items of typed and handwritten correspondence and photography. This project will preserve the key collections from the museum’s archives in perpetuity while facilitating access and discovery of the Phillips’s most-requested primary sources. The project will serve as the foundation for digital initiatives that coincides with the museum’s 100th anniversary in 2021, making accessible many of the important, revealing correspondences and stories behind the artwork in the museum’s collection. This project will be instrumental in bringing the collections into the 21st century.
