The Semantic Web

According to many web experts the next big stage in the evolution of the Internet will be the advent of the Semantic Web, that is, technologies that let computers process the meaning of Web pages instead of simply downloading orserving them up blindly. So far, little technology in this field has been available to the general public but the launch of Twine will change that.

Twine is developed by Radar Networks, based in San Francisco and is part bookmarking, part social network and part recommendation engine. Twine shows promise of being a powerful way to research a subject collaboratively and find people with common interests. How does it work though?

Twine uses artificial intelligence to scan the contents of Web pages and extract key concepts and then links the information withusers. So far, users have created twines devoted to twentieth-century music, science, technology, philosophy and cool things found around the Web.
