I Make a Living Online

Hi, I'm Derek and I make my living directly from the Internet. I know there are plenty of folks who are doing the same, but for every individual that makes enough to actually live on, there are probably another 99 who try and fail. So what's so alluring about working from home on my own laptop and taking some risks with my own livelihood?

Well, for starters, the risks, while very real are a necessary part of creating a business. If you aren't prepared to take risks, then you should not try this and would be better off seeking gainful employment with a local company or employer. I'm not joking either! There are a plethora of hyped up ads all claiming that you can make a lot of money online, but the reality is very different. It takes a lot of hard work, long hours, dedication and dogged determination to succeed, whereas the ads all claim you just need to virtually press a button and wait for the money to fall out of the sky!

So what is it that I do that makes me enough of an income that I can afford to keep doing it?

Its a combination of writing and website building and promoting. You need to know how to do the first one if you want to do the other! The writing started as freelance web content creation which earned me enough to buy several domains and build web sites on them. These took a varying length of time to mature into a state where they now generate a passive income from advertisements. The way to make this work is a technique known as SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as you need search traffic to succeed, as opposed to traffic from social sites like Twitter or Facebook etc.

SEO is a skill that anyone can learn, but few actually do. Most of the so-called SEO experts that are out there are either frauds or extremely bad business people. I know this because when I use my skills to place one of my own websites onto the front page of Google (which is what this is all about), that website starts making very decent money. The more sites I work on, the more money II make. If the so-called SEO experts could really do that with any site, it begs the question "Why are they not concentrating all their efforts into making a fortune with their own sites instead of charging other companies and individuals a fraction of what they could potentially earn to promote their websites?"

Anyway, that's an outline of what I do and in this blog I will talk more about how to do this.
