Hello again! Hopefully you take my lack of updates as a sign that I am extremely busy, not that I don't care about you all. I have some updates that are most likely not as thrilling as I am making them out to be.

First, I was able to secure funding for my two summer classes, so I am enrolling in:
-Multimedia Production
-Special Topics: Public Policy and Libraries
With these two classes, that eliminates at least one semester from my workload. The special topics course is with Dan O'Connor, who I have heard great things about so I am excited for that one. Sure, I get to complain about how I have no free time from the end of May through early August, but you wouldn't be reading this if you weren't interested in whining.

Second, I am still on standby regarding my loan status for the 2009-2010 school year, but I'm feeling positive that I will get the necessary funds to support myself from September through next May. Sometimes, when I think about quitting and cutting myself off from my only source of income, I get a little panicky. Then again, if I take the maximum amount that I will most likely be awarded then I will have no problem at all supporting myself. There is also the possibility of getting federal work study funds, which would be ideal. If you are unfamiliar with work study, it is a form of student employment based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA form that every student should be filling out. Students who qualify are placed with a university department, usually the department not of their choice. As a grad student, I think I will be granted a bit more pull when it comes to placement.

I interviewed for a political science fellowship earlier this month. Political science, you ask? Yes, I see any experience in public policy to be very valuable for a future government librarian. Understanding and being involved with the political process helps not only me, but the patrons that need my assistance. If I don't get the fellowship, it isn't the end of the world, but it would be a great experience. I would do a seminar in the fall and an internship in the spring, perhaps at the NJ State Library.

In other news, we signed a lease on our apartment, so it will officially be our home for the next couple of years. The rent is CHEAP for New Brunswick, which makes me worry less about finances and life in general. There are plans for a cat or two, a container garden (that is a whole other blog in itself), and lots of thrift store shopping.

Well, there's a personal update for you. I hope to have some free time to write a more professionally oriented one later this week. It's strange that as finals approach and things are nearing their due dates, I feel more inclined not to do them...
