Spring Break 2K9
SPRIIIINNNGGG BREAAA--oh wait I have to go to work. Every day.
Despite that, this spring break has been pretty enjoyable and very productive in terms of relaxation and mental health. This week is book-ended with parties, consisting mostly of very good and fun people. St. Patrick's day was low-key but fun, punctuated by Irish Car Bombs and the discovery of a liquor called "Zwack" from Hungary. The weather has been very nice, which led to an impromptu romp in a New Brunswick beer garden. I've worked out for the past five days in a row with no plans of stopping until Sunday. I'm getting less sleep but doing more leisurely things, and its a really nice feeling.
Its also a very refreshing reminder that this level of stress is not forever. I will not be spread too thin for that much longer, so these anxieties about time and money and achievement will eventually go away. I found two summer courses that will allow me to graduate with my boyfriend (who is attending full time), provided I can secure funding from Rutgers for the student loan off season. One is a multimedia and web design class, and the other is about libraries and public policy. Both would be very interesting and being able to do this over the summer would make my life so much easier.
We are also looking for apartments together. While rent will be cheaper in a one bedroom, there is still rent to think about. I will be taking out much larger student loans this fall to cover the cost of being alive, which is INCREDIBLY expensive in New Jersey. While we may have the cheapest gas, we have some of the highest cost of living outside of New York City or California. To give you an idea, cigarettes (though I don't smoke anymore) are over seven dollars per pack. My uncles smoke about a carton per week, adding up to roughly my car payment every month.
At this point, I'm just trying to relax and steel myself against the papers and readings and meetings that I have coming up. Thursday night means one more day of work and the looming promise of a few extra hours of sleep on Saturday morning. I need to keep reminding myself, "this will all be over soon" and someday I WILL join the noble ranks of the professional librarian.
