Distance Ed Although online courses are not offered, the Palmer School offers the MSLIS degree at four locations:
C.W. Post Campus in Brookville
Brentwood Campus in Brentwood on Long Island
New York University's Bobst Library in Manhattan
Long Island University's Westchester Graduate Campus at SUNY Purchase College

Courses are taught on nights and weekends to accommodate those working fulltime while earning their degree.

ALA Accredited Degree (# credits) 36 credits, 12 courses

Full time students (9 credits/semester) can expect to finish the program in one academic year and a summer session. Students who attend part-time usually complete the degree in two and a half years.
A concentration in Rare Books and Special collections is offered within the MSLIS.

Masters The Palmer School offers a joint MLIS & MA program with the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Students can ear their MLIS through LIU while pursuing another graduate degree through NYU. A total of 52 credits are required to earn this dual degree.

PhD Offer a PhD program in Information Studies. Requires 48 credits of post masters studies and an additional 12 credits at the dissertation stage.

Certificates LIU offers two advanced certificate programs:

Public Library Administrations-This program is limited to working professionals who must hold an MILS and have a minimum of 2 years experience working in public libraries.

School Library Media Program/Certification Yes, a School Library Media Program is offered to those earning their MSLIS. School Library Media courses (3 credits each) are required in addition to the regular Master’s coursework. An internship is also required.

Internships A 120 hour internship is required as a core course while earning an MSLIS degree.
Mentor Programs 160 hour mentorship is required as part of earning an MLIS. Students will work with a mentor during the entire length of their program and can employ that mentorship to intern at an organization within the NY area.
