The Director of the University Library is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University Library, serves as a member of the Deans' Council and reports to the Provost.

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
Provides leadership for the development and implementation of a shared vision of the Library that enhances the quality of the library's programs and services and leads the library in support of the University's mission and vision in teaching, scholarship, service, and campus/community engagement.
Gives strategic vision and leadership to the Library Advisory Committee
Provides positive, collaborative leadership and supervision for the library departments. This includes all library staff, graduate assistants, and student workers.
Makes recommendations for hiring library staff and promotes the professional development of librarians and staff. This includes the supervision and evaluation for continuing effectiveness of the professional and para-professional staff.
Collaborates with university constituencies in strategic planning, integration of appropriate technology, collection development, policy development, funding, and assessment.
Works effectively with college deans in support of academic programs.
Proposes and administers library budget according to university policy and procedures. This includes reviewing library department and acquisition requests.
Manages library facilities and resources promoting stewardship and increasing the effective achievement of library and university goals.
Fosters information literacy through innovative delivery of library and information services to meet changing needs of diverse constituents.
Develops liaison programs.
Collaborates with units and services co-located within the library in strategic planning, mutual support of student learning, integration of appropriate technology, and policy development.
Actively participates in internal and external committees and organizations as appropriate.
Networks with other libraries, librarians, organizations to keep current with library and information literacy standards and practices, and represent the university in the community.
Participates in the University-wide assessment activities to strengthen student learning, to achieve accreditation goals, and to improve the effectiveness of the library.
Provides regular reports to the Provost Office regarding goals and accomplishments, including assessment, financial, and statistical data.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, 5 years experience in successful library administration.

Evidence of successful management and leadership within a college or university library;
Demonstrated ability to lead new initiatives consonant with the liberal arts university, strong communication and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated effective budget management;
Demonstrated ability to lead, evaluate and supervise faculty and staff;
Demonstrated previous experience with strategic planning, facilities management, accreditation and outcomes assessment;
Evidence of leadership in collaborative activities;
Knowledge of emerging trends and issues in college and university libraries and related instructional/information technologies;
Evidence of commitment to diverse populations who utilize library resources;

Salary: $85,000 to $120,000

Building widgets and apps designed to embed library resources and services into learning spaces.
Collecting and reporting statistics, and assessing impact of technology-based services on library users.
Participating in the design and development of the library's website and instructional and promotional materials, as well as in reference and instructional services.
Serving as the liaison to the School of Education and providing collection development for education.

Requirements:

ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science.
Demonstrated experience developing widgets, apps, tutorials, or other research/instructional tools.
Demonstrated ability to provide reference and instructional services.
Current awareness of issues and trends in information technology and public services.
Familiarity with standard practices in Web development and usability.
Experience using course management systems, online collaborative productivity tools, and content management systems.
Commitment to providing responsive and innovative services to a culturally and racially diverse campus.

The following education, experience, and/or certifications would be an asset, but are not required:

Proficiency with one or more programming languages, and a content management system like Drupal.
Reference and instruction experience in an academic library.

* Represent Ex Libris to customers: provide world-class support to customers; maintain a professional demeanor with customers in all interactions; train customers formally and informally as needed; contact and respond to customer listservs as directed; attend customer conferences and meetings as directed

* Support internal teams: work with and for the Voyager Technical Team, other members of the Voyager Functional Team, Support teams for other products, and other internal customers to troubleshoot Support Incidents, answer questions, and provide deliverables for projects

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Licensing, Certification, and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree mandatory.

The position reports to the Head, Student Multimedia Design Center, and works in a rapidly changing, technology-rich public service environment to coordinate general outreach and instruction activities related to multimedia technology and assess departmental needs. Work collaboratively with other librarians, faculty, and information technology staff to provide instructional support for students on multimedia projects and coursework. Provide initial technical support for the Center, including troubleshooting software, hardware, and equipment issues and the design and maintenance of the departmental web site. Develop departmental staff training and enrichment activities to practice and learn new multimedia technologies. Provide direct assistance to library users at a busy service desk with: computer hardware, software applications, and equipment; microforms, maps, and CD-ROM collections; scanner/copiers and portable media equipment; and register transactions. Assist the Head, Student Multimedia Design Center in overall departmental operations and program planning, including recommending multimedia equipment and software for purchase and recommending and implementing new policies, procedures, and services related to multimedia.

Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program. Demonstrated experience with current multimedia production capabilities in Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems using software such as the iLife suite, the Adobe Creative Suite, and Final Cut Pro. Successful experience working with university faculty, students and staff in an academic setting. Ability to use technology to meet instructional and public service objectives. Video creation equipment troubleshooting experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills to enable effective instruction to groups related to the use of multimedia in higher education. Strong public service orientation. Ability to create and maintain web sites using CSS, HTML 5, and Javascript. Knowledge of trends in librarianship and digital multimedia creation in order to effectively serve the student population. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Supervise all assigned subordinate staff, usually through other supervisors. Recruit, screen, hire and train staff. Assess need for technical/professional growth and recommend development opportunities. Evaluate employee performance, provide guidance and feedback. Counsel/discipline as needed.
• Set departmental goals/objectives and communicate to staff. Assess or define priorities to achieve performance objectives.
• Manage Web development project teams within budget and project schedule.

• Advise management regarding information systems requirements. Facilitate planning and direct the design, installation, modification and operations of department information systems.
• Evaluate vendor proposals for purchases of hardware, software and technical services to assure adherence to specifications. Analyze project(s) feasibility.
• Prepare long and short range plans for web applications selection, systems development, systems maintenance, production activities and support resources, coordinating area efforts with university-wide efforts.
• Develop project specifications. Plan and coordinate project schedules & activities. Direct coding, testing, installation, debugging and documentation of systems developments and/or enhancements.
• Plan/implement necessary controls and procedures to protect systems and data from modification, disclosure or destruction.
• Ensure web-related information systems products meet standards and user requirements.
• Test web-related software and hardware and monitors and resolves problems.
• Oversee development and maintenance of web systems, programming and operations documentation.
• Development of training materials and programs for department staff/users.
• Stay informed of new developments in field and technology changes. Make recommendations to management regarding web/web technology changes.
• Develop/implement security related procedures. Coordinate security activities with University Public Safety Department. Promote and maintain standards for security. Ensure dissemination of security related information to staff.

Minimum Experience: 5 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly relevant experience administering comparable information systems to be able to provide technical direction to systems development and support staff. Supervisory and budget experience.
